Executive Secretary of National Labour Commission (NLC), Ofosu Asamoah has said that labour unions are abusing strike actions.
According to him, the phenomenon where these labour union resorts to strike action as the immediate means of seeking redress is worrying.
He said this in an interview with Evans Mensah on JoyNews’ PM Express, Monday.
Mr Asamoah explained that although a strike is an effective means to make demands from appropriate organizations, he feels it has been abused by some labour unions.
“It’s been abused several times. Recently we had one that is why we quickly rushed to the courts but where we can manage it, without going to the court we do like in this case.”
He said this whiles reacting to the current strike actions being embarked on by workers belonging to the various institutions in the country.
Also speaking on the show was labour consultant, Ben Arthur who opined that embarking on strike does not automatically solve problems.
According to him, instead of considering strike, negotiations should be looked at since it is the best way to deal with issues.
He alluded that “it appears that when there is a strike action, people don’t feel the need to push but that is not what brings the solution.”
