A student of the Komenda Senior High Technical School in the Komenda Edina Eguafo Abirem (KEEA) Municipality of the Central Region, has had her buttocks badly bruised through caning, by a Housemistress in the School.
Sarafina Mensah, a boarding student of the School said she was given forty strokes of the cane by the Housemistress, Ama Sika, for exiting the campus, with a colleague, without an exeat.
Explaining why they left campus without permission, Sarafina said they went home to get food from her aunt, but couldn't make the return journey due to heavy rainfall.
Thus, they spent the night at home and returned to school the following day. But that did not sit well with the Housemistress. Hence the caning.
She alleged that after she showed her bruised buttocks to Madam Sika, and requested to be allowed to seek medical help, the permission was refused. Madam Sika rather asked her to seek treatment at the students' infirmary.
The bruised student further stated that she made a complaint about her ordeal to the School's Senior Housemistress and the Assistant Headmistress but they did not help in any way.
The KEEA Police have initiated investigations into the matter after the student and her relatives reported the matter to them.
The Komenda Edina Eguafo Abirem Municipal Education Director has also dispatched a team to the School to investigate the matter and submit a report to the Directorate.
