The Chiefs and people of Lambussie District in the Upper West Region have appealed to President Akufo-Addo to consider honouring them with an ultramodern District Hospital to end the people's struggles for health care.
The people said they were told that the construction of an ultramodern District Hospital would start soon, compelling them to release double the land requested for the project but had since not seen the commencement of work on the much-needed facility.
The Paramount Chief of the Lambussie Traditional Area, Kuoro Issaka Zengeh Kazie Tenjie II, made the appeal when President Akufo-Addo called on him during his two-day tour of the Upper West Region.
He said the people were already happy when they heard the news of the facility they were longing for and the appropriate location of the land but would even be more elated when work finally commenced.
Kuoro Tenjie II noted the Lambussie District was the only District without a single tarred road and appealed to the President to look into the abandoned Lambussie Town roads contract to ensure it was delivered to befitting the town status as the District capital.
The Paramount Chief said the Lambussie Community Day School, which was competing favourably well with other schools in the region and beyond, had portions of its roof ripped up by rainstorm, disrupting teaching and learning.
He, therefore, appealed to the President to do something about it, including; converting the school into a boarding one due to the lack of accommodation for students in the community.
Kuoro Tenjie II noted that out of the six dams constructed in the district under the Infrastructure for Poverty Alleviation (IPEP), three of them were washed off by floods and appealed for fixing.
He added that out of the six institutional toilets under construction by IPEP, none had since been completed and urged their speedy completion to address the challenge of open defecation.
The Paramount Chief disclosed that about 13 communities in the district had not been connected to the national grid and stressed the need to be connected to facilitate socio-economic activities in these communities.
He appealed for a special development package beyond the One-Constituency-One-Million-Dollar initiative for Northern Ghana, arguing that the Northern Development Authority lacked the capacity to address the development challenges in Northern Ghana adequately.
On the challenges of the Lambussie Community Day School, President Akufo-Addo pledged it would be dealt with in two weeks, adding that the request for the provision of a bus and the conversion of the school into a boarding school would equally be taken on board.
According to the President, education was essential for the country's development and expressed delight to see Traditional Authorities committing to issues of education in their communities.
He said he was happy that the district was going to benefit from an ultramodern District Hospital under the Agenda 111 initiative and pledged his commitment to see to the completion of the project.
President Akufo-Addo thanked the people for voting back a New Patriotic Party (NPP) candidate, Dr Bakye Yelviel-Dong Baligi, for representing them in Parliament and promised them the necessary development this time NPP was in government.
