The Play and Learn Foundation has received over 300 books from the Samira Empowerment and Humanitarian Projects (SEHP) through its Library-In-A-Box project.

The donation was made by the SEHP team on July 25, 2021.

The Library-In-A-Box Project is an initiative of the Second Lady of Ghana, Mrs. Samira Bawumia, which provides books in boxes to underserved public schools across Ghana.

This project is part of efforts to level the playing field in improving literacy skills among Ghanaian children and to raise a generation of critical thinkers who can compete globally.

Play and Learn Foundation organizes reading clinics in the Okponglo and La Bawaleshie communities to supplement efforts to grow the habit of reading and to improve comprehension, writing and speaking skills of the children within those communities.

Ms. Jessica Boifio, who led the SEHP team, commended volunteers of the Play and Learn Foundation for their effort and time dedicated to building the capacity of the children. She urged them to continue inspiring the next generation by opening up new worlds and possibilities to them, through reading.

“The Second Lady, Hajia Samira Bawumia is passionate about education and is willing and ready to support efforts to encourage reading, and to improve the literacy skills of children across the country. We see what you are doing and that is why we chose to complement your efforts with books from our Library-in-a-Box Project. Keep up the good work and together, we can all move this country forward. Thank you for helping us in this fight and for inspiring these young ones to read”, she said.

Sung-Bawiera Lutfata, Assistant Executive Director of the Play and Learn Foundation, expressed gratitude to the office of the Second Lady for the donation and recognition. She also used the opportunity to call on the government to collaborate with grassroots Non-Governmental Organizations to help bridge the gap in education, especially in underserved communities.

The Play and Learn Foundation brings together boys and girls who have a passion for play, a drive to lead, and a desire to pursue academic and professional excellence. By targeting underserved communities, the Foundation seeks to provide an opportunity where it is most needed.
