The Paramount Chief of the Sunyani Traditional Area, Nana Bosoma Asor Nkrawri II, on Monday, August 2, 2021 announced a successor to the late Queen mother for the area.
The long-awaited announcement comes two years after the death of the former Queen mother, Nana Yaa Nyamaa II.
The short but memorable ceremony which took place in Sunyani was graced by members of the Gyaase family, some heads of security institutions, residents of Sunyani, and well-wishers.
According to the Chief, the stool name for the new Paramount Queen mother is Nana Akosua Dua Asor Brayie II.

Born in Sunyani, the 61-year-old is known in private life as Mrs. Bright Faakye Brayie. She is married to Mr. Collins Faakye, a native of Kwahu Nkwatia, with whom she has 3 children; a girl, and 2 boys.
She was born to Opanin Kwadwo Donkor who is from the Kokofu Akyeremade Bretuo family and Maame Afia Adutwumaah of the Boahen Korkor Asenie Kodi Adonten family.

Nana Akosua Dua Asor Brayie II, the new Paramount Queen mother of Sunyani, is a retired educationist. She spent 36 years in the educational service, as a teacher for 16 years, and a headmistress for 20 years.
After her announcement and introduction, Nana Akosua Dua Asor Brayie II thanked the chiefs and elders of the Sunyani Traditional Council and assured them that she will respond to the needs of her people at all times with a promise to go the extra mile to ensure development for Sunyani.

Giving details on her selection, Nana Kwaku Sarbeng II, the Akwamuhene of the Sunyani Traditional Area, said although there are many royals, not everyone can be made to sit on the throne.
“Nana Bosoma Asor Nkrawri II and his elders at the Sunyani Traditional Council, the Boahen Korkor royal family went through many processes before they settled on a royal who was fit to become the queen when the stool became vacant two years ago”, he added.

He used the platform to assure the new Queen mother of the council’s unflinching support during her reign and also urged the people of Sunyani to accord her the needed respect and support as was given to the late Queen mother.
He explained that the new Queen mother will be handed over to the Gyaase family so she can be taken through some customary and traditional training; this will include how to act both in public and in private.
