The Ministry of Education (MoE) has sworn in members of the Governing Councils of seven state-owned Universities.
The Universities are; Ghana Institute of Management and Public Administration (GIMPA), University of Mines and Technology (UMAT), C. K. Tedam University of Technology and Applied Science (CKT-UTAS) and the Simon Diedong Dombo University of Business and Integrated Development Studies (SDD UBIDS).
The rest are; Akenten Appiah-Menka University of Skills Training and Entrepreneurial Development (AAMUSTED), the University of Health and Allied Sciences (UHAS) and the University for Development Studies (UDS)
The Minister for Education, Dr. Yaw Osei Adutwum who inaugurated the Councils in Accra, urged the new Board members, to ensure that their institutions produce graduates who are critical thinkers.
“One of the critical things you need to do is to create critical thinking graduates. If they think critically, they will be able to surmount any challenge that they come across after they graduate from the institution,” he said.
Chairpersons of the various Universities pledged to ensure the smooth running of the Universities.
Dr. Stephen Saforo Yirenkyi who spoke on behalf of the University of Mines and Technology (UMAT), charged members of the Council to live up to their roles to, "ensure the vision of the Vice Chancellor is supported."
