Member of Parliament for Juaboso, Kwabena Mintah Akandoh, is suing the Bono Regional Chairman of the NPP, Kwame Baffoe popularly known as Abronye DC, one Kwabena Kwakye and Ken City media for defamation.
In a writ filed at the Accra High Court, the MP, who is also a ranking member on the ad-hoc committee set up to investigate the Sputnik V deal, stated that Abroye had alleged on Oman FM that he demanded money from the Health Minister to shelve some findings from the probe.
Mr Akandoh wants the court to declare that his reputation was injured by reason of the false, malicious, unjustifiable and reckless defamatory statement uttered by Abronye on the radio station.
He also called on the court to award “the sum of GH₵1,000,000 in general damages against the 1st Defendant (Abronye) and the sum of GH₵1,000,000 in general damages against the 2nd (Ken City Media) and 3rd (Kwabena Kwakye) Defendants.”
Again, Mr. Akandoh wants the court to direct the defendants to retract their claims and also apologize on the radio station, Oman FM.
He also wants the apology to receive the same prominence the defamatory words received within seven days after the judgment.
The Ranking Member is also calling for “an order of the Honourable Court for perpetual injunction restraining the Defendants, their agents, assigns and servants from further publishing any defamatory words against the Plaintiff.”
Reacting to the allegation, the Juaboso MP stated that he will not be intimidated in his quest to expose the “rot” in government.
“This country belongs to all Ghanaians. We shall continue to do our best to expose the rot in Government. No amount of intimidation will suffice. They may try something different but I am above intimidation and blackmails. Ghana deserves better.”
