The former National Chairman of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), Peter Mac Manu has said that the Akufo-Addo led government is on course with the fight against corruption in the country.

According to him, the pre-election survey undertaken by the Centre for Democratic Development (CDD) Ghana in 2020 confirmed that “55 percent of Ghanaians say that government was on track in attacking corruption.”

His comment was in reaction to the post-election research conducted by the CDD-Ghana. The report revealed that majority of respondents interviewed doubt the ability of the Akufo-Addo government, to protect the country’s financial resources.

The survey, which was carried out between May 3, and June 3 this year, took place across all the 16 regions in the country with 2,400 adults as respondents.

Respondents who took part in the survey said they have no confidence that the incumbent government can curb corruption over the next four years, adding that they are less optimistic about the administration’s ability to reduce crime.

Mr Mac Manu however has disagreed with the claims made by respondents during the survey.

“The pre-election survey had I think 55 percent of Ghanaians saying that the government was on track in attacking corruption, that’s why I was asking Dr Selormey, in this one, they are saying there are three issues, and then the green was 39 or 30 and 'same' was 27. So I asked her what is the meaning of 'same'? Was it in the 'same' that people thought that we are in the same track of attacking corruption? And if you add the yellow to it, then we are way above the fifty something. So they should have explained to us the meaning of the ash colour which they noted as 'same'" he said.

Mr Mac Manu said the report on the survey by CDD Ghana indicates that more work is being done than the propaganda being carried out by the government's detractors.

“If you look at the hullabaloo people are talking about you will be amazed. I mean look at what people are saying, it means that there is so much propaganda than the actual work that is going on. That’s the way that I see it from the result and we must look at actuals than propaganda,” he said.

Meanwhile, the NDC’s Director of International Relations, Alex Segbefia, said the results confirm that the Akufo-Addo government has shown less commitment to eradicating corruption.
