The Minister for Roads and Highways, who is also Member of Parliament for Atiwa West constituency, Kwesi Amoako-Atta, has assured residents in Bia West and Juaboso of the government’s commitment to complete the Benchema-Adjofua road.
Speaking to the people during the President's visit to the area, he said the project is still under construction and would be completed in due course.
Meanwhile, President Akufo-Addo disclosed after interacting with the contractor, that by the end of June, 2022 the road will be completed.
The 38km Benchema-Adjofua road was started in 2019 after the Vice President, Dr Bawumia cut a sod for its commencement.
Even though the project was previously awarded on contract in 2011 and 2014, work did not start and the contract was eventually terminated on the advice of the Cocoa Roads Audit Committee in 2017.
Benchema-Adjofua road is strategic, as it serves as the main conduit in the transportation of crops, cocoa and timber from the region.
It is also the major road linking Ghana with Cote d’Ivoire at Oseikojokrom. Economic activities are, however, hampered perennially, especially in the rainy season.
The Roads Minister gave the assurance when President Akufo-Addo and his entourage embarked on an inspection exercise to the road construction site at Sehwi Seyerano in the Juaboso district, as part of his two-day tour to the region. He also acknowledged the chiefs for their unflinching and continuous support to the government.
