Member of the Constitutional, Legal and Parliamentary Affairs Committee of Parliament, Rockson-Nelson Dafeamekpor says the urgent push for the passage of the anti-LGBTQ bill is to ensure that 'gayism' does not spread in the society.
He made this statement on Newsfile on Saturday when host, Samson Lardy Anyenini asked why such importance have been placed on the bill instead of the plethora of issues that exist in the country.
According to him, although there are issues in the country, the activities of the LGBTQ community is a canker that must be dealt with.
“…in addition to this as a canker is the threat of the spread of this canker among our people. Nobody can stop over speeding, but there’s a need to check over speeding and so this bill is our speed rump to stop over speeding. This bill is our vaccine and our face mask to stop the spread of gayism.”
He added that while issues of road in his constituency and other constituencies are of importance, the issue of LGBTQ must be dealt with.
The anti-LGBTQ bill has been making waves over the week. More so, after the denial of visas for some Members of Parliament.
The discourse has seen advocates like the Church of Pentecost and other religious bodies pushing for the passage of the bill and threatening to vote out any political party that supports the LGBTQ community and not the bill.
