Statistical officers of local government have been advised to invest more in personal training and refresher courses to stay relevant in the statistical field.
Head of Local Government Service, ING Nana Ato Arthur moderated a 4-day training workshop held at Sky Plus hotel in Ho.
ING Nana Ato Arthur noted that with regular training and workshops, the statistical officers would be able adequately provide the needed services required of them.

According to him, as officers of the statistical class "you are mainly to handle statistical compilation, analyses, encode data and consolidate data to help shape decision making and report to management."
He noted that his office has received several complaints from statisticians about not having enough work to do in the various districts.

To address the issue, he urged them to make themselves relevant by demonstrating to the MMDCEs and MMDCs how they can compile accurate data for the assembly and its concomitant internally generated revenue.
He also used the opportunity to commend the statistical officers for their contribution in ensuring the just-ended population census was a success.

Volta Regional Coordinating Director, Prosper Afenyo noted that it was necessary that statisticians go through such training in order to be equipped with the relevant skills to work.
The workshop saw participants from the Greater Accra, Oti and Volta regions.
