The Foods and Drugs Authority has given authorisation for the Pfizer vaccine to be administered on children between the ages of 15 and 17.
The Director of the Ghana Health Service, Dr Patrick Kumah Aboagye stated that this development will help Ghana to achieve proper herd immunity as persons within this age bracket form the active group of the country's population.
"This is a very important news for us because the most active group for us are the young ones in that age," he said.
He further noted that this will help reduce school outbreaks, especially for those in school and also help reduce transmission to adults.
The disclosure was made to Graphic Online.
About 836,000 of the adult population in Ghana have so far been vaccinated against the corona virus.
