Finance Minister, Ken Ofori-Atta

The Finance Minister, Ken Ofori-Atta has revealed that although he has been battling liver disease for some time now, it does not in any way affect his ability to work.

Opening up for the first time about his wellbeing, Mr Ofori-Atta said, “I got Covid-19 somewhere in November and then got out of a hospital’s emergency maybe the 10th of December.

"I came home and things were pretty good, I mean the Covid was gone. Then I began to feel jaundiced and so I was feeling quite unwell.

“Eventually, we got diagnoses that the liver was inflamed and required some work to determine what was really happening.

"So that took some time to begin to find the probable cure, which involved steroids and all of that,” he recounted on Thursday.

For some months, a section of Ghanaians has been speculating about the health condition of the Minister.

Several diseases have been speculated with many questioning his ability to execute the tedious task of managing the country's economy.

For many, in a time when nations worldwide are battling the devasting effect of the Covid-19 pandemic on economies, a sick Finance Minister should not be at the helm of affairs.

However, speaking on Accra-based Metro TV, the Finance Minister, insisted that he is in great form and can discharge his duties as expected of him.

According to him, "Clearly, the DNA is strong enough to do the work that we do.”

“It took some time I went back for review in August and the information was that it’s pretty much gone. So they are now titrating to see how to bring the steroid down, so I can get back to normal life.

“But essentially, I am pretty much mended and you need to just manage your rest and sleep and exercises and some good food,” he stated.

He further expressed gratitude to God and the people who supported him during the tempestuous time.

The Minister was forced to take leave of his office early this year after contracting Covid-19.

He flew to the United States of America to obtain medical treatment on the advice of his personal doctors for virus-related issues on February 14, 2021.
