Kumasi Asante Kotoko head coach, Prosper Ogum has heaped praise on striker, Isaac Oppong for his livewire start to the season.
Last season, the striker recorded 33 goal contributions in 17 games for Division II side Bectero Sassana, attracting the porcupines to his signature.
This season the striker who earned himself the name ‘Neymar’, has propelled Kotoko to win all of their opening four games.
Coming off the bench for his debut against Dreams with the score at 0-0, Oppong proved to be the missing piece for Ogum, assisting Kotoko’s first and third goals while netting the second himself.
The story continued for the striker versus Becehm United. Oppong came off the bench and won the penalty from which Ismail Ganiyu scored the first of the Porcupine’s two.
He maintained his match-influencing streak versus Bibiani Gold Stars – his goal ensuring Kotoko won their third straight game, while serving Gold Stars with their first home defeat in a year.
And versus Eleven Wonders, Oppong proved instrumental once more, netting his third goal in four games to seal Kotoko’s victory.
The 18-year-old striker has earned the backing of Ogum.
"I think he’s a fantastic player, he’s talented and he works very hard too. So he’s a blend of talent, hard work and the ability to listen to tactical instructions on the field of play. Whatever you tell him to do, he does it well and is able to add up what you tell him.
"So I think this young guy is going to go far if he’s able to keep his focus, his calm and confidence,” Ogum said.
Fans of the Porcupines, pleased with the club's start to the season and his contribution, have started branding the 18-year-old as the season's best player.
After such high-praise so early in the season, the striker has brushed aside any form of pressure which might be building up.
Nonetheless, he is appreciative of the support he is receiving from players and the technical team.
“No, I am not under any pressure. I’ll thank my coach and team mates, they have helped me. Since my arrival, the coach has been working with and teaching me.” the striker said.
