Police in the NorthEast Region says they have commenced investigations into the death of an elderly woman in Nalerigu.
According to the police, the incident which occurred last week involved a woman who was found dead in the bushes of the town's cemetery.
The police said the woman was discovered with bloodstains on her face and marks of assault all over the body, which made them suspect foul play.
Earlier, unconfirmed reports suggested the woman was accused of being a witch and might have been killed and dumped in the ceremony by her accusers.
The Regional Public Relations Officer, ASP Robert Anabiik, told JoyNews that although they are yet to establish the motive behind the suspected killing, an autopsy has shown the woman did not die of a natural cause.
He said a search had been mounted for the perpetrators.
