The Ghana Health Service (GHS) has reviewed its isolation guidelines for international arrivals testing positive for the Covid-19 virus at the Kotoka International Airport (KIA).

In a press statement signed by Director-General, Dr Patrick Kuma-Aboagye, the Service noted that effective December 24, it will introduce home isolation for international arrivals who are vaccinated but have contracted the virus and are asymptomatic.

"Persons following assessment by the Port Health Unit of the Ghana Health Service and found to be eligible will be allowed to undergo isolation in their homes. All such passengers will be briefed on the self-isolation protocols."

The Ghana Health Service, however, added that such individuals will be subjected to strict monitoring to ensure compliance with the protocols.

The introduction of home isolation, the Service said arises from "an observation that many Covid-19 positive cases among international arrivals are vaccinated and asymptomatic."

Meanwhile, the GHS says persons not eligible for the home isolation measure will continue to be isolated in the designated National Isolation Centre or designated hotels.

Also, it assured its commitment to ensuring the health and safety of the general public.

Ghana introduced a policy on Covid-19 testing and management for international arrivals at the Kotoka International Airport in September last year.
