The spokesperson of the National Chief Imam Sheikh Nuhu Sharubutu, Sheikh Armiyao Shaibu has described the recent clash between gangs from the Nima-Mamobi areas as contradictory to the teachings of Islam.
Speaking on JoyNews’ PM Express, he noted that upon seeing footage of the clash he was shocked and disappointed.
“Definitely the sight was one that evoked shock, disappointment, worry, anxiety, fear, sadness and everything that one can associate with these negative emotions as a result of such a development which in our view is a needless kind of development. But it has taken place,” he said.
According to him, the people involved in the clash failed to exercise Muslim values which included tolerance, respect for the sanctity of human blood and the sacredness of life “and all those things are things that Islam upholds.”
“And my disappointment more is in an area where it’s clearly a Muslim dominated area, so one will expect the refinement that the teachings of Islam bring to human life,” he said.
“And so for an area where you see, I mean, more than 5 times a day the blaring of the horns of the Azzan in an area of such nature and every day we hear the sermons and to have such if you like brigandary, or if you like kind of clashes of irate young people must be something that is worrying. And I find in it a certain contradiction,” he added.
