The LPG Marketers Association of Ghana is appealing to government to remove some taxes on the petroleum price build up to reduce the price of the commodity and encourage many Ghanaians to consume LPG.
Consumption of Liquefied Petroleum Gas (LPG) dipped to 28,000 metric tonnes in the second half of last year, from 29,000 metric tonnes in the first half of last year.
This the LPG Marketers Association of Ghana has attributed to the rising price of the commodity which is pushing the ordinary Ghanaian from purchasing Liquefied Petroleum Gas.
Prices of petroleum products including LPG is expected to go up from today.
Speaking in an interview with Joy Business, Vice President of LPG Marketers Association, Gabriel Kumi, said the operators are forecasting a reduction of LPG to about 27,000 metric tons if the price continue to remain high.
“Currently, our LPG consumption in Ghana is on the decline. On the surface the consumption is very stagnant. For the past one year, we have been stagnating.”
“We have been doing about an average of 28,000 metric tons a month. Naturally, the population is growing so the natural expectation is that as the population grows there should be that natural growth”, he explained.
He pointed out that LGP should be growing in tandem with the population growth.
