Ne-Yo says women should “stop dancing” to certain records if they want men to stop using “misogynistic” terms.
In a recently released clip from an interview with The Cruz Show on Real 92.3 in Los Angeles, the “Another Love Song” artist is seen speaking about music that’s—in his words, at least—“super misogynistic” in nature. The recent Yung Bleu collaborator also argued that men can only be blamed “halfway” for this.
“It’s gotten super misogynistic, which I don’t understand,” the singer said. “And mind you, I can only blame us, men, halfway for that. Because as a woman, if a man sings the word ‘bitch’ to you and you smile at him, then he’s probably going to do it again.”
From there, Ne-Yo elaborated further, ultimately arriving at his “stop dancing” argument.
“The more misogynistic the lyrics get, the more y’all accept it, the more it’s gonna happen,” he said. “That’s just kinda what that is. So, ladies, I love y’all to death but if y’all want men to stop calling you ‘bitches,’ stop dancing to them records.”
At the time of this writing, it wasn’t clear whether Ne-Yo was commenting on specific songs or artists. The comments, however, have received some criticism, including from those who pointed out via IG comments what they argued are the inherent nonsensicalities of Ne-Yo’s remarks.
Of note here, of course, is that Ne-Yo in 2017 made headlines after responding to a questionable IG post about “relationship advice” from Tyrese with the suggestion that women shouldn’t listen to either of them.
“Don’t listen to any of our advice,” Ne-Yo wrote at the time. “Do what you want.”
