Ghanaian-American comedian and actor, Michael Blackson, has promised to get investors and some of his colleagues in Hollywood, including Tyler Perry, to invest in the Ghana Movie Industry.
According to him, the industry needs funds and some other things including a film studio to flourish; adding that he would like Ghana to be a spot for filmmakers across the world to visit and shoot their projects.
Speaking in an interview with JoyNews’ Doreen Avio, he said, “I ran into a few film commissioners that were here last week. We talked about how we need a big film studio here, so I am going to reach out to my big boys like Tyler Perry to see if he would be interested in extending something over here.”
To ensure these investors and Hollywood bigshot see potential in the industry, Micheal Blackson said he would take the initiative by filming his first movie in the country.
According to him, this is one of the first few steps he can take to elevate the Ghana movie industry and also showcase Ghana to the world.
“I decided this summer that I will shoot a project here. It would be a comedic series, something I could sell to Netflix and Amazon.
“Ghana has so much beauty that I want the world to see. I want us to eventually be a place where people come to shoot a big movie,” Micheal Blackson said.
Meanwhile, the actor has taken steps to find investors. In a post on Twitter, he called on Tyler Perry to help build the film studio in Ghana.
“Hey @tylerperry, let’s go half on a film studio in Ghana, I’ll get the land and you build the studio,” he wrote.
In other tweets, he called Ghana the Dubai of Africa, and said it was beautiful and fun for everyone.
