In preparation for the celebration of their International Women’s Day event at Obra Spot on March 8, 2022, Women in Poultry Value Chain (WIPVaC), Apex Ghana and Ghana National Egg Campaign Secretariat (GNECS) with support from the EGGSTRA-O campaign donated sixty trays of eggs to the Madina Polyclinic - Keleke.
This donation was to improve access to and knowledge on the benefits of eggs for all, especially pregnant women, nursing mothers and their children.
The donation was done by Pamela Agbotse, Greater Accra Regional President of WIPVaC who presented the egg trays and boxes of breakfast cereal, Tomvita X to the unit.

After which, Comfort Acheampong, National Coordinator of GNECS, expressed the two groups’ commitment to “promoting egg consumption across the country and highlighting the many unknown benefits of eggs” through activities such as this donation.
“We appreciate the gesture and will ensure that every woman here gets their fair share," Deputy Nursing Officer of the polyclinic, Ida Osei-Kuffour, said after receiving the eggs.

She used the opportunity to appeal to the groups to make such visits frequently as it was beneficial to the mothers and made their work to educate them on egg consumption significantly easier.
After the donation, Mrs Naana Adjei (Dietitian) addressed questions and concerns of the mothers on eating eggs and educated them on how to introduce eggs into meals in ways that ensure nutrient retention.

She also advised the mothers to carefully wash the eggs before cooking for their children in order to prevent bacteria around the shell from entering the yolk.
Speaking on the motivation for their involvement, Ndidi Fordjoe who is the Project Lead on the Eggstra-O campaign said, “the goal of the Eggstra-O campaign is to educate Ghanaians on the eggceptional benefits of eggs for children, the elderly and everyone in between."

She said that it was a fine opportunity to join WIPVaC and GNECS in this endeavour to encourage and educate women and children to eat eggs.
The Eggstra-O campaign being implemented by The Little Cow Consulting Limited in collaboration with GNECS is funded by the American Soy Association and World Initiative in Soy for Human Health (ASA/WISHH).
The launch of Eggstra-O will coincide with this year’s International Women’s Day (March 8, 2022) at Obra Spot and will be organised in grand style with leaders and members of the Ghana National Eggs Campaign Secretariat (GNECS) and the Women in Poultry Value Chain (WIPVaC) - Apex Ghana, AgriHouse Foundation, African Women in Agribusiness (AWIA), and African Women in Animal Resource Farming and Agribusiness Network (AWARFA-N).
