Lorient midfielder, Innocent Bonke has been named as the replacement for Wilfred Ndidi in Nigeria's squad to face Ghana in the 2022 FIFA World Cup qualifier playoff.
Ndidi picked up a knee injury in Leicester City’s 2-1 loss to Stade Rennes in the round of 16 of the UEFA Conference League on Thursday at the Roazhon Park, forcing him to be substituted.
The Super Eagles were hoping his injury would only make him unavailable for the first-leg in Ghana but after tests done by Leicester's medical team, the player will become unavailable for the upcoming international break, causing him to miss the double-header against the Black Stars.
In his absence, Bonke, who has made seven league appearances for Lorient in the French Ligue 1 has replaced him in the squad for the game.
The 26-year-old has made just two appearances for the Super Eagles since making his debut in September 2021.
The first leg comes off on Friday, March 25 at the Baba Yara Stadium with the reverse encounter taking place four days later at the Moshood Abiola Stadium.
