Ghanaian music producer, Wei Ye Oteng, has criticized board members of the Vodafone Ghana Music Award scheme for nominating Afriyie Wutah in the Audio Engineer of the Year category.
In an interview with Andy Dosty, Wei Ye Oteng mentioned that Afriyie Wutah was not truthful in his submission for that category. He stated that his colleague and veteran sound engineer Appietus mixed and mastered the song and should have been nominated ahead of the former half of music duo Wutah.
Following an initial post on social media, Wei Ye Oteng believes that the VGMA board should have done their investigations on that particular category.
“Anybody can pick a job that he is affiliated to and claim he is responsible for the full job. The VGMA board also did not do due diligence to find out if what he said is true. They should have made sure to give any individual involved in the song the credit they are due”.
He however advised musicians to be truthful and give credit to every single individual who contributes to the creation of any songs churned out.
According to VGMA, the audio engineer is adjudged by the board to be the engineer(s) directly responsible for the recording, mixing and technical production of the song adjudged as the Record of The Year.
This year, the likes of Francis Osei, Afriyie Wutah, Liquid Beatz, Jo Oware, Richie Mensah Chris V. Rootselaar & Jaap Wiewel were nominated.
