CEO of Akwaaba Group, Mr. Dennis Tawiah, has urged all Ghanaian entertainment stakeholders in the music industry to unite to push Ghanaian music to the international stage.
In an interview with Andy Dosty on Daybreak Hitz on Hitz 103.9 FM, organizer of Akwaaba UK mentioned that he has realized that there is division between artistes, promoters and the media.
According to him, it’s not a good sign if the aim is to promote Ghana music.
“There is a big problem between Ghanaian artistes, Ghanaian promoters and the media. There is a serious divide. We need to get together and I think it starts from the artistes. They have to believe in what stakeholders are doing and not the hype.”
Mr Tawiah believes that there are enough talents in Ghana who can penetrate through different markets especially in the UK. Even though he admits that Nigerians have dominated, he is very optimistic that artistes from Ghana do better.
“People in the UK are not feeling the effect of our music because the Nigerians have dominated. However, we have enough talents and it’s all a matter of coming together to promote them. Let’s stop talking and act now.”
Akwaaba UK is made up of several events encouraging young working professionals from the diaspora to return to their motherland to enjoy parties and leisure aimed at connecting the diaspora with peers in Ghana.
The platform has seen the likes of King Promise, Camidoh, Mr. Drew, Kofi Jamar and a few others mount their stage to thrill Ghanaians and other individuals in the diaspora.
