The Ghana Real Estates Developers Association (GREDA) and government will soon launch a 20,000 affordable housing units for Ghanaians.
This is one of the major steps to help bridge the rising housing deficit in the country, which is estimated at a little above two million housing units.
President of GREDA, Patrick Ebo Bonful, told Joy Business an agreement signed between government and his outfit is being reviewed to make it more functional.
“We signed an agreement with government which is being reviewed to make it [affordable housing project] more functional. We signed an agreement for 20,000 housing units; is being reviewed as we speak. Very soon, we should be launching it.”
According to him, the objective of the projective is to construct houses at very affordable prices for the average Ghanaian to own.
“We aim to price these houses at ¢300,000 for 3-bedroom, 2-bedroom apartment for around ¢250,000 and so on and so forth; so these are super affordable houses”.
“But the idea is government will provide the land, services. I mean put up electricity, water and all and we’ll come in and build the vertical projection”, Mr. Bonful stressed.
He also pointed out that GREDA will shortly construct GREDA estates, similar to the ones at Teshie- Nungua, Sakumono and Weija Estates, built in the 1990’s.
“We are going to do our own GREDA estate as well. The prices are going to be competitive”.
