Ghanaian alternative rock band, Dark Suburb has announced they will be performing at this year’s music festival in Canada.
The week-long event slated for June is set aside to celebrate music and arts in general.
Speaking to JoyNews’ Becky, the new manager of the group, Limman revealed the move is to help kick start the band's long-awaited Europe and America tour.
“We are using the platform to kick start our Europe and American tour. Also, we are forging a partnership with GIPC and the Northern Development Authority to use our platform during the Canada Music week to direct foreign investment into tourism and creative arts in Ghana, particularly the northern part of Ghana.
"Being a band in northern Ghana, a representation of people living in the slum, we intend to use whatever limelight we are under as a catalyst to shed light on the potential of creatives from the North, which includes tourism, industry which the north desperately needs,” he said.
He further explained that the music festival "goes to affirm that Dark Suburb is a musical force to reckon with. Dark Suburb has had one of the highest nominations from the all African music awards (Afrima). We are a record 6-times nominated afro rock band who have had its album compete with Wizkid, Fally pupa, Hugh Masekela, P square etc for album of the year.
"It is a huge achievement for us because let's not forget our album was a rock album! Yet even as we chalk all these accomplishments, we are not really recognized as we should. So we believe that Dark Suburb performance at the Canada music week is a step up the ladder. Hopefully, good things will start from there and trickle down to Ghana our homeland.”
Dark Suburb is an Afro-rock band built on a concept of the Alkebulanian [African] masquerade culture and the skeleton.
