Many advocates have pushed for the decriminalisation of petty crimes and the need for the country’s laws to embrace community sentencing.
This push follows reports that overcrowding remains a major challenge for the Ghana Prisons Service as it strives to uphold prisoners' human rights and dignity.
Today on The Law, host Samson Lardy Anyenini and his guests discussed Ghana's plan for community sentencing, with a focus on how the phenomenon of community service can be explored to alleviate prison overcrowding.
The guests were Deputy Attorney-General, Alfred Tuah Yeboah and Director of Programmes at the Institute for Human Rights and Development in Africa, Edmund Amarkwei Foley.
