There is an uneasy calm at Adum Afrancho in the Ashanti Region as family of a 38-year-old bar operator killed over an alleged chieftaincy dispute demands justice.
Eye witnesses say the deceased, Bright Yeboah, was stabbed multiple times with a knife by one Kwesi Brefo from a known faction in the dispute as he tried to save his younger brother.
Bright Yeboah’s younger brother, Kwame Darko, who also sustained multiple stab wounds is currently fighting for his life at the Komfo Anokye Teaching Hospital.
Wailing and sadness have filled the home of Bright Yeboah due to events of the past few days that led to his death.
Bright Yeboah, before his death, was a pub operator.
His grandfather, Atta Poku, recounted circumstances that led to his death to JoyNews.
“One of the suspects is a police officer. He’s the brother of the perpetrator. He took a dagger from his vest and gave it to his brother to stab them several times. People at the scene tried to prevent them but he warded them off. I think the chieftaincy dispute caused this murder,” he said.
According to an eyewitness account, a brother of the deceased – Kwame Darko - was found stabbed in cold blood at a spot few meters away from the deceased’s pub.
The body of Bright Yeboah has since been deposited at the morgue, while his brother is on admission at the Komfo Anokye Teaching Hospital.
The deceased left behind three children and a wife.
The widow, Ruth Oppong, is worried about the upkeep of the children.
“My eldest children are 13 and 10 years. The youngest is 7 years. I told the youngest their dad had traveled. I am not a trader. He was the one who paid for all their expenses,” she said sadly.
The Ashanti Regional Police Command, in a statement, said six persons have been arrested in connection with the murder.
The family is calling for justice.
“We are only asking for justice. We can do more than they’ve done. We only need justice to be served,” Atta Poku added.
