The Melcom Group has commissioned a newly built health centre and an office block for residents within the jurisdiction of the Ningo-Prampram District Assembly.
The commissioning forms part of the company’s Corporate Social Responsibility to impact the lives of the residents.
The health centre has provision for a theater room, sterilisation room, changing room, outpatient department, scan office, family planning department, laboratory, physician room, lobby room, pharmacy, delivery room, and nursing room among others.
In addition, an office block was also commissioned for the district.
"Today Melcom Care takes another giant leap into the future by living the Melcom Good Corporate Citizenship Dream of impacting lives positively and we do this in conformity with our chosen pillars for customer service initiative - education and health".
"In line with this desire for the public good that Melcom is motivated to undertake the construction of an office block and a health centre for the Ningo-Prampram District Assembly for the benefit of residents in this densely populated area of the Greater Accra Region,” Communications Director for Melcom Group, Godwin Avenorgbo noted.
Speaking at the commissioning of the health facility, Mr. Avenorgbo said the gesture is also to relieve the government from some of its burdens and also create employment opportunities for residents of the community.
In an interview with the media, he said despite the economic challenges, Melcom will maintain prices at affordable rates.
He disclosed the opening of a new mall by the end of the year.
“We are expanding territory, 50 shops in Ghana currently plus 2 other mini shops. That's a lot and we are going to open very soon the largest shopping mall in this country. It's going to be bigger than all the shopping malls in Ghana put together and I can tell you this will happen before the end of the year,” he disclosed.
District Chief Nursing Officer, Sylvia Arde-Acquah expressed optimism about having a facility that will ensure the privacy of patients.
According to her the size of the current clinic in the community does not encourage women to go for the services of family planning since there is no privacy.
"The CHPS compound is a very small place as compared to this place and the population of Dawhenya is around fifty-one thousand.
"Mainly family planning is our main problem because at Dawhenya health centre privacy is a problem but looking at the rooms here, we can have privacy for our people".
Meanwhile, the District Chief Executive, Latif Tetteh has urged the community to cultivate the maintenance culture to manage the facility.
