Izwe Savings and Loans has donated a 7500-litre water storage tank connected to the mainstream pipe-borne water to Odukpong kpehe MA Basic School at Kasoa in the Central Region of Ghana.
With a population of close to 1,000 pupils, the school has struggled to access clean water. Each day, the children risk their lives by crossing the busy Kasoa-Nyanyano road to fetch water from a community tap to fill the plastic buckets placed in the school for various purposes including washing of hands.
It is always a dangerous endeavor as a Class 6 teacher, James Nyarko, explained. “We always wondered when this problem would be solved. The children had to always cross the road. We were not happy, but we could not do anything about it.” he said.
“This is an exciting intervention by Izwe. Right now, some pupils from the nearby schools come to fetch water here. We are grateful to Izwe Savings and Loans,” a teacher, Dorothy Oppong, said.
The supply of the water tank is one of many embarked on by Izwe Savings and Loans in communities across the country as the company marks 10 years of operations in Ghana.
Izwe Savings and Loans is a subsidiary of the Izwe Africa Group, which is headquartered in Mauritius and has operations in South Africa with subsidiaries in 3 other African countries, Zambia, Kenya and Ghana.
After 10 years of doing business in Ghana and positively impacting lives, the firm said its impact story will not be complete without making a conscious effort to support Small and Medium Enterprise (SME) in Ghana.
It is for this reason that Izwe Savings & Loans has earmarked ¢150m to support the SME sector this year. This commitment it believes will strengthen the resilience of specific sectors and enhance their capacity to grow and create employment in the economy.
