Vice-Chancellor of the University of Ghana, Professor Nana Aba Appiah Amfo has assured the commitment of her administration to improve academic performance at the University of Ghana through renewed research and technology.
Professor Amfo gave the assurance during her welcome address at the launch of the 75th-anniversary celebration of the University of Ghana, on the theme, “Nurturing Resilience: Adopting Technology, Embracing Humanism.”
She said, although UG has trained persons in various sectors of the economy over the years, it is imperative to leverage research and technology for better growth in the next 75years.
“My administration is resolute to further improve the fortunes of UG through the execution of 6 key strategic objectives (KSOs) delivered through strategic partnerships and deliberations.”
These are, “reinvigorating impactful research, developing technology driven and robust processes in all our endeavours, strengthening traditional revenue streams and expanding alternative income sources, leading a vibrant and responsive governance and management system, increasing UG’s visibility and ranking, as well as creating a sense of ownership and commitment among all our stakeholders.”
Call to train global solution finders
Speaking at the same event, the Second Deputy Governor of the Bank of Ghana and Guest Speaker at the launch, Elsie Addo Awadzi reiterated the need to train human resources who will be well equipped to find solutions to global issues.
“Global trends of geopolitical tensions, climate change, energy security issues, infectious diseases, cyber-attacks, and many others give us a sneak peek into what the next decade and more could hold for the world. Education then must respond to the realities of this fast-changing world and must be powered by cutting-edge technologies that are now disrupting the way we do things.”
Meanwhile, the 75th anniversary celebration will be a year-long programme of activities such as local and international lectures, UG run/marathon, interunion games, and festivals among others.
