The Spokesperson for the Ministry of Education, Kwasi Kwarteng, has revealed that the government has released funds to Senior High Schools across the country to support their feeding.
In a press statement, he noted that the government through the Ministry of Education has released an amount of ₵126,000,000 covering non-perishable food items to the National Food Buffer Stock Company.
Also, ₵72,106,603 covering perishable food items and recurring expenditure has been released to all Senior High and TVET Schools across the country.
This comes on the back of year-long erratic food supply to schools across the country.
Some senior high schools across the country are on the verge of being shut down as the food shortage situation worsens.
In July, the Education Ministry had said food supplies will reach the schools after the Upper West Regional Chapter of the Conference of Heads of Assisted Secondary Schools (CHASS) issued a 7-day ultimatum for the delivery to be made.
It, however, emerged that government failed to see this promise through.
In their defence, the Education Ministry’s Public Relations Officer, Kwesi Kwarteng revealed that there have been challenges with the delivery.
The development has caused further agitation amongst heads of senior high schools across the country.
However, reassuring the general public, the Education Ministry spokesperson, Kwasi Kwarteng communicated the “Ministry’s commitment to ensuring the timely supply of adequate and quality food items to all Second Cycle institutions.”
“The Ministry further reiterates its dedication to ensuring smooth and effective distribution of other resources in its quest to improve and sustain quality education in Ghana,” the statement concluded.
