Maiden Ghana Paediatric Excellence Awards to honour paediatricians and child health professionals have been held in Accra.
The event held at the Lancaster hotel in Accra recognised 25 paediatricians in both public and private healthcare institutions for their outstanding contributions to the health sector. All the awardees received a plaque.
Dr. Nana Obeng Ambe won the Paediatric Surgeon of the Year, Dr. Ida Dzifa Dey, won the Supporting Paediatric Rheumatologist of the Year and Ridge Hospital Bone marrow Center was adjudged the Paediatric Sickle Cell hospital of the Year.

Also, an honorary award was given to Professor Nana Akyaa Yao, the only Paediatric Cardiologist in Ghana for her outstanding contribution in curing children with heart disease.
The award scheme under the auspices of Afrimedia Galaxy is to motivate health professionals who have demonstrated compassion, respect and care to children’s well-being.
Speaking at the event, the Medical Director of the Greater Accra Regional Hospital, Dr. Emmanuel K. Srofenyoh said the award scheme for paediatricians is timely.

This, he explained is because paediatricians have gone above and beyond the call of duty, laboring nonstop to save lives while endangering their own.
“Paediatrics the most difficult part of specialisation in medicine so we thank them for looking after our children.
Emphasizing the need for a regular reward system, Dr. Srofenyoh said it will encourage many to give off their best in life of duty.
He commend Afrimedia Galaxy for the laudable initiative which he described as second to none.
Executive Director of Afrimedia Galaxy, Joseph Egyir Sarfo said the award is to acknowledge the true champions of health.
“Being a paediatrician is a very difficult work and they have to be appreciated so that they can do more to help humanity” he stressed.

Mr. Sarfo was confident the maiden edition will propel a lot of paediatricians to give off their best in their line work.
“People not interest in going in the field so this award which recognizes their hard work will encourage a lot of young health professional to be paediatricians” he added.
