Ghana Gas company has shut down its gas supply to Volta River Authority (VRA) citing persistent breakdown of the machine that extracts gas from the Jubilee oil fields to the company
The machine known as the FPSO compressor has reportedly broken down at least thrice since Saturday.
With the shutdown, power supply to consumers could suffer even further as the Volta River Authority generates power using on gas.
The Chief Executive of Ghana Gas, Dr. George Sipa Yankey has lamented the frequent breakdowns saying it robs Ghanaians of the advantages that come with the construction of the gas plant.
Quantifying the loss to VRA, Dr. Yankey said the plant supplies some 60million scf to VRA daily.
The effect of the shutdown may not be immediately felt as VRA stores up gas from Ghana Gas’ Atuabo processing plant.
