Cantine San Marzano, a leading wine producer from the region of Puglia, in the heel of Italy’s boot says Italy has great wines in the world.
This revelation was made known when the company, a reputable winery from Italy for the first time showcased its range of products at the seventh edition of Italian Cuisine Week in the World in Accra.
The story of Cantine San Marzano began in 1962 when 19 vine growers from the village of San Marzano di San Giuseppe in south Puglia’s Salento area came together to found Cantine San Marzano. Comprised of families who had farmed the land for generations, this was their dream come true.
Throughout the decades, it has grown significantly and now attracts over 1,200 top-quality vine growers. Cantine San Marzano has played a central role in enhancing the value and profile of Primitivo di Manduria from old Alberello vines (bush vines) and has been able to produce world-class wines, respecting a centuries-old tradition but with a constant attention to research and experimentation.
In a statement by the company, it indicated that diversity and authenticity are, in our opinion, the most interesting traits of Italian wines at the moment. Our duty is to make the most of these values since, as Italian producers, we are blessed with an incredible variety of grapes (several hundreds, each and every region has its own heritage) and a centuries-old winemaking tradition. We work every day measuring ourselves with this heritage with a constant attention to high-quality level, which is something we have been focusing on since day 1.
“The overall experience was very positive for us. The event involved great part of the Italian community in Accra as well as all the main wine distributors and leading figures in Ghanaian politics. It was certainly a profitable opportunity for San Marzano to make its first appearance in the food & wine sector in Ghana”, the statement further added.
Cantine San Marzano makes use of native grapes grown in the beautiful Puglian countryside, and using modern vinification techniques, it creates elegant and clean vintages. The fusion of time-honoured tradition, passion and contemporary craftsmanship enables the production of wines with distinctive varietal characteristics that reflect the essence of the local terroir. San Marzano mostly specializes in full bodied and smooth red wines, such as Primitivo and Negroamaro, but the range is particularly wide, and it also includes crispy rosé and white wines as well as Spumantes.
The 7th edition of the Italian Cuisine Week in the World, celebrated in Accra on November 15, last year, saw the largest participation of food and wine partners since the Embassy of Italy and the Italian Trade Agency (ITA) began to mark the annual event in the country.
It is these benefits that the Embassy of Italy and the Italian Trade Agency (ITA) aim to bring to Ghana as part of ways to strengthen bilateral exchanges and economic cooperation between the two countries.
