Madina MP Francis-Xavier Sosu has asked the Commission on Human Rights and Administrative Justice (CHRAJ) to conduct investigations into the military brutality in parts of Ashaiman.
The lawmaker’s call follows a brutal military invasion of parts of Ashaiman on Tuesday dawn, following the murder of a young soldier, Imoro Sherrif, on Saturday dawn at Ashaiman-Taifa.
Footages shared on social media show armed military personnel brutalising residents.

However, the Ghana Armed Forces has said the operation was merely a swoop in a man-hunt for some criminals and not for vengeance.
According to GAF, “the military operation, which was sanctioned by the Military High Command, was NOT to avenge the killing of the soldier but rather to fish out the perpetrators of the heinous crime.”

They added that their “swoop” had led to the arrest of about 184 suspects aged between 21 and 47 years old and they have since handed them over to the military police who will subsequently send them over to the Ghana Police Service for screening and further action.
But Mr Sosu is not enthused about the justification provided.
Even though he condemned the killing of the military officer, he insisted that the actions of the military were uncalled for.
“While I deeply regret the death of Trooper Imoro Sherrif and condemn his gruesome murder in all uncertain terms, the Military had no business taking the law into their own hands.
“With the video evidence available, CHRAJ must conduct full investigations into the Human Rights violations of this unlawful act of violence on innocent citizens.
“This is unacceptable in a Constitutional Democracy,” he said in a Facebook post on Wednesday.
