The Ghana Intellectual Property Office of the Registrar General’s Department in collaboration with the Copy Right office of Ghana and the Chamber of Agribusiness, Ghana, is inviting the general public, particularly women entrepreneurs to the celebration of this year’s World Intellectual Property Day.
World Intellectual Property Day is celebrated annually on the 26th of April. IP Offices around the world organize events to mark the day, to inform the general public about the role of intellectual property rights in encouraging innovation and creativity for their businesses.
World Intellectual Property Day 2023 will focus on the theme, ‘Women and IP: Accelerating Innovation and Creativity,’ celebrating the significant contribution women around the world are making in terms of innovations and creativity, as solutions that support a sustainable future of businesses.
The Acting Registrar- General, Grace Ama Issahaque, who made the invitation, says the IP Day celebration which will be held at the National Theatre on Tuesday, April 25 and Wednesday, April 26 will get attendees abreast with how IP can help with business commercialisation.
“In many cases, SMEs do not know about IP, their IP assets, and don’t think IP has anything to do with their business commercialization. Others also think IP is expensive, hence, they do not have an IP strategy at all for their businesses,” she said in her invitation.
She added that the two-day event will include exhibition of women led Micro, Small and Medium Enterprises and businesses shall have a real time interaction on how to do trademark and branding the proper way in order to have good brand presence on the market.
Each days’ session will begin at 10:00 am.
“I want to take this opportunity to invite all business women, and all women who are nurturing any idea of owning a business in both goods and services, to take advantage of this event to learn how to use IP in their business,” she urged.
