Eleven pupils of the KNUST Basic School emerged winners in the 2023 edition of the school’s annual Spelling Bee and quiz competitions.
The competitors represented their classes, from kindergarten to Basic 6.
The competition aims at developing the confidence, and exposing pupils to healthy competitions, improving spelling and ultimately enhancing the reading habits of learners in the basic schools.
In the Spelling Bee competition, Dara Amma Nunoo Nyamedzi of KG 2B, Bhavani Paz Akyeaa (1C), Hussein Habib Mutawakil (2E), Anisa Iddris Timtooni (4C) and Matilda Twumasiwa Antwi (5H) were winners at the KG, Basic 1, Basic 2, Basic 4 and Basic 5 respectively.

The quiz competition yielded six winners: at Basic 3, Stephany Adwoa Arthur, Samuel Etornam Deku and Adwoa Pokuaa Osei Agyemang triumphed over the counterparts.
Basic 6 winners were Kwasi Agyarko Nyantakyi, Marian Achiaa Agyemang Prempeh and Bernadette Nyira Amesinu Ansere.
Bernadette Ansere believed their hard work payed off.
“It’s about the grace of God and we all put out our best to represent the class and win,” she said.
Head of the KNUST Basic Schools, Rev. Mrs. Irene Nkansah, emphasized the competitions importance in the academic calendar.
Last year, Otumfuo Osei Tutu II Foundation sponsored two pupils from the KNUST Basic Schools, and this year, the Foundation has generously extended its support to four students.

The foundation also donated exercise books to the contestants to commemorate the 24th Anniversary of Otumfuor on the Golden stool.
“Today, we gave them branded exercise books which have the King’s statement and signature to motivate the children. Any time they look at the statement, they become motivated His Royal Majesty thinks about them and there’s the need to strive hard in their education,” said the public relations Officer of the Foundation, Kwabena Owusu Ababio.

The Chairman of the Organising Committee, Michael Gyan Kwaffo was grateful to the sponsors for making the event a success.
