Over 10,000 police officers will be deployed in Accra and Cape Coast to oversee security, crowd control and traffic concerns during the visit of US President Barack Obama.Over 10,000 police officers will be deployed in Accra and Cape Coast to oversee security, crowd control and traffic concerns during this week’s visit of US President Barack Obama.Police officers from across the country will begin patrolling the streets of Accra from Wednesday in the lead up to President Obama’s arrival in Ghana on Friday evening.Police say they are preparing for large-scale crowds to line the streets during the President’s visit, including visitors from other African countries.Ceremonial routes in Accra including Liberation Road, Independence Avenue, 28th February Road and Castle Road will be cleared of all other traffic when the President’s motorcade will be using the route.Police say motorists wishing to use those roads will be diverted onto the Kanda Highway.Commissioner of the Motor Traffic and Transport Unit, APC Daniel Julius Avorga, told Joy News the increased police presence is needed to ensure the safety of President Obama and his team as well as the many Ghanaians who will come out to see him.Meanwhile preparations are underway in the Central Region to receive the visiting US president.
