Great Somas Soccer Academy, on Tuesday, June 13, beat Young Generation Football Club to win the 2023 edition of the Baby U-16 African Football Tournament held in Cape Coast.
Samuel Anim Addo scored the only goal of the game in a cagey contest to secure victory for Somas who were winning the tournament for the second time in their history.
Both teams looked well-prepared to give their all in the final game of the tournament and rightly did as the opening half ended without a goal with the two teams threatening on several occasions.
However, Somas took the needed leap in the game after the recess with Anim Addo beating his marker and scoring the game's opener.
Despite several attempts from Young Generation to level the tie, Somas were tight at the back and gave no chance for slip-up as they held on to win 1-0.
Somas were making their second final since the inception of the competition after winning the first edition at Accra Academy Astro Turf in 2018.
Young Generation were only participating in the Baby Jet U-16 tournament for the very first time and would see a second-place finish as a good attempt.
For the third-place playoff game, Ken Hammer pipped Taking Over Football Academy to finish as second runners-up.
In the school's edition, Edinaman SHS beat Mfantsipim 6-5 on penalties to win the maiden edition after playing out a goalless game in regulation time.
Aggrey Memorial also beat Adisadel College on penalties to claim the third position.
