Head of the Political Science Department of the University of Ghana, Professor Alidu Seidu, says the biggest decider in the upcoming Assin North by-election will be voter turnout.
According to him, the ruling New Patriotic Party and the National Democratic Congress are almost on the same footing in terms of their campaign strength and have rallied strongly for their candidates of choice.
However, despite their strong rallying, Dr. Seidu noted that all would come to naught if electorates refuse to come out to vote.
He noted that the side that suffers the most voters’ apathy is more than likely to lose in the upcoming elections.
Speaking on JoyNews’ PM Express, he said, “My best bet is that it’s going to be very difficult to predict this election. But what is going to do the trick is the level of voter turnout. It depends either the NPP or the NDC and their ability to prompt and get people out to vote from now up till tomorrow up till midday, they should be able to get as much as possible their supporters to go out and vote.
“Voter turnout is going to be the biggest deciding factor. If you look at the recent data analytic survey it says the difference is just one percent different and one percent in an election like this can either be influenced by voter turnout.
“So my best bet is that they have all done their best, NPP and NDC, they have campaigned, they have sold their messages, they have they have sold their candidates, they have promised voters, they have referred to history, they have referred to trajectory and appealed to emotions but what’s going to do the trick is how they’re going to get their people out to vote,” he said.
