Africa's top scorer in the history of the FIFA World Cup, Asamoah Gyan, has admitted that Ghana's qualifying group for the 2026 edition of the tournament is tough.
However, he has expressed optimism about the Black Stars chances of booking a slot for the tournament to be hosted in the United States, Mexico, and Canada.
Ghana will battle it out with Mali, Madagascar, Central African Republic, Comoros, Chad, and Mali in Group I, with the top team qualifying automatically.
After the draw, the former Black Stars captain said expectations are high back home as the national team attempts to qualify for the biggest football event in the world for a fifth time.
"I think since 2006 when we qualified for the first time, we have been very consistent except in 2018 that we didn't qualify," Gyan said.
"It looks like we are getting used to the World Cup. 2026 is not going to be easy because the expecation is high back home but we will try our possible best to make sure we also qualify."
Asamoah Gyan was among the African legends that conducted the draw in Ivory Coast on Thursday, and notably selected the group Ghana will be competing in.
