Poor primary and secondary healthcare in Ghana has put pressure on especially tertiary health facilities.
This has called for appropriate policies to ensure the smooth running of tertiary health facilities.
A forum that brings together senior specialists and consultants at the Komfo Anokye Teaching Hospital is ensuring the formulation of appropriate policies for improved patient care.
The meeting is under the theme: “Driving a customer-eccentric healthcare delivery at KATH: The role of senior specialists and consultants.”
CEO of KATH, Prof. Otchere Addai-Mensah noted the Hospital has failed to realise its mission as a result of lack of coordination between management and staff.
He believes the meeting will therefore avert the situation leading to improved patient care.
"Regrettably, KATH over the years has failed to optimize the use of this rich human resource through the lack of formal forums such as we are witnessing today to deliberately consult, engage and involve its large group of senior specialists and consultants in the design of strategies towards the effective attainment of its mandate.
"This state of affairs has over the years resulted in the emergence of a gulf between management and this cadre of staff, a situation which has weakened the hospital's ability to reach its fullest potentials due to the huge under-utilization of this highly prized human resource," he said.
He was hopeful "The forum is therefore being organised as part of the drive to bridge any gap, whether real or perceived, between management and this group of staff, acknowledged their indispensability and contributions to the realisation of the hospital's mandate and actively seek their expert inputs and participation in improving patient care, training and research at the hospital."
