The Ghana Highways Authority (GHA) is conducting an assessment of work expected to be done on the abandoned Tema Motorway toll booths.
At least one person has been killed and several passengers severely injured from crashes recorded at the abandoned toll booths.
JoyNews in the last couple of weeks has been reporting on the dangerous nature of the disused tollbooths which have become major spots for accidents on the stretch.
The Director of Road Safety and Environment at the Ghana Highways Authority, Joseph Amedzake said the demolition of the booths will begin on Friday, September 8.
According to him, all obstacles along the Accra –Tema Motorway will be cleared as well.
“We’ve recorded some accidents here which resulted in the loss of lives and as an Authority..., we take necessary measures to address those safety concerns.
“We did some preliminary assessment of the works needed to address the problem. Today, we are here to carry out the final assessment for work to commence tomorrow – Friday,” he said.
He added that for work to progress without causing traffic, they would be blocking the extension created on the road for the concrete session to be used.
Meanwhile, motorists have expressed their excitement at the move as well as raised concerns about the potholes on the roads.
