Joy Business’ Emma Davies emerged as the Business and Economic Journalist of the Year 2023 at the 27th Ghana Journalists Awards held to celebrate journalists who have churned out exceptional reports in the year under review.
Ms. Davies who is a journalist with Joy Business, Joy FM and Joy News, all subsidiaries of The Multimedia Group, was recognised at the event which took place on Sunday, October 30, 2023, at the Accra International Conference Centre.
The award was for her documentary “How some youth are leveraging greenhouse technology to address unemployment in country”.
This is the second consecutive time Joy Business has won the coveted award. Assisting Business Editor Daryl Kwawu won the Business and Economic Journalist of the Year 2022.
The vintage award shows how unique the Joy Business platform has over the years empowered and supported businesses including Small and Medium Scale Enterprises to expand and ultimately contribute to the growth of the Ghanaian economy.
Commenting, Ms. Davies said the award signifies the immense potential that abounds in the agriculture sector yet to be tapped.
“It feels great to know that you’re being appreciated for all the efforts you make and the stories you put out there. Journalism is about telling compelling stories that make an impact."
"The story which pushed me to the top was 'youth in agriculture'. I did the story because I believe the agriculture sector has a lot of potential, provided the youth are ready to explore the sector,” she added.
The documentary titled “1D1F: Youth in Greenhouse Enterprise Project” is one of the episodes of Foodchain, an agribusiness show, hosted by Emma Davies on the JoyNews Channel every Saturday at 6pm and on JoyFM every Thursday at 1pm.
That particular episode sought to track the progress and impact of government’s flagship programme One District, One Factory on the youth.
