The ECOWAS Brown card will go digital in 2024, the incoming Chair of the Council of Bureaux, Henry Bukari, has disclosed.
The ECOWAS Brown Card Insurance Scheme was established to safeguard the movement of goods, services, and people within the economic block.
Speaking to Jo yBusiness at the 39th ordinary General Assembly of the Council of Bureaux of the ECOWAS Brown Card Insurance scheme, Henri Bukari noted that digitizing the West African insurance scheme will ensure the seamless usage of the scheme across borders of member states.
“We are about to launch into the next phase, we are moving into the phase of digitalization. Starting next year, we will be moving from the hardcore paper Browncard that you see.
He further added that the move will promote sub-regional trade.
“The ECOWAS Brown Card Insurance Scheme stands today as a hallmark of regional integration, facilitating seamless trade and movement within West Africa”
In his address, the Acting Commissioner of the National Insurance Commission, Michael Andoh, called for the strengthening of a robust regulatory framework to curtail challenges associated with settlements.
“The resolve to expedite these compensations has been strengthened by regulatory frameworks, and we must continue to improve upon these systems.”
The 39th Ordinary General Assembly of the Council of Bureaux witnessed a gathering of heads of insurance institutions across the sub-region to deliberate on ensuring a harmonized insurance space.
