The University of Cape Coast (UCC) has appointed Carruthers Tetteh as the first visually impaired lecturer at the Faculty of Law.
Mr Tetteh assumed his role in December 2023 and teaches Criminal Law and the Ghana Legal System.
Despite losing his sight at the age of 11 due to a drug reaction, Mr Tetteh persevered and pursued his passion for law and advocacy for the less privileged.
He obtained a first-class degree in English and History in 2015 at the University of Cape Coast, being the overall best-graduating student with visual impairment.
Subsequently, he achieved another first-class degree in Law at the same university.
Reflecting on his experience after the appointment, he shared, "In 2002, I lost my sight as a result of a drug reaction when I was in primary five and at age 11."
He explained that he faced adverse reactions after taking a prescribed drug following a visit to a private hospital in Winneba in the Central Region.
