The Kumasi Metropolitan Assembly has marked about 85 houses and structures on watercourse to be demolished in Kronom-Kwapra near Kumasi.
Meanwhile, the city authorities are tight-lipped on the date set for the exercise.
Three members of a family of four met their untimely death in Kronom-Kwapra on June 27, 2009 when their three-bedroom flat collapsed during a heavy down pour.
Nhyira FM’s Ohemeng Tawiah reported that officials of KMA were locked up in a strategic meeting on Thursday afternoon, which the impending demolition exercise was expected to feature prominently on the agenda.
KMA Mayor, Samuel Sarpong, said the exercise would be extended to other areas under his jurisdiction.
Meanwhile residents are yet to come to terms with the city authorities on the demolition exercise.
In another development, a disaster and relief expert, Andrew Frimpong, has asked the National Disaster and Management Organization (NADMO) to educate people in flood prone areas on evacuation and other measures to avoid disaster should the worse floods come.
Mr Frimpong, who is the Secretary General of Ghana Red Cross Society, told Joy News that government needs to find a long term solution that would adequately handle emergencies in the country.
The country has been experiencing heavy intermittent rains for about a month causing floods that have claimed lives and destroyed property worth millions of Ghana cedis.
