Eastern Regional Minister, Seth Kwame Acheampong says preparations are being made for the 67th Independence Day celebrations in Koforidua.
According to him, adequate arrangements have been made to ensure that the celebration is successful.
Speaking to JoyNews on March 5, ahead of Wednesday’s celebration, he said “We have been rehearsing for the past weeks. Yesterday was our final rehearsal day with all the contingents on parade. That aside, the ground where we are going to host this event is also ready.”
He explained that with a lot of people coming to town, there would be heavy traffic, therefore the Motor Traffic and Transport Department (MTTD) of the Ghana Police Service would station personnel at vantage points to ensure that the situation is managed.
The March 6 Independence Day celebration is themed " Our Democracy, Our Pride."
Mr Acheampong expressed enthusiasm about the region hosting the event as he believes it would project Koforidua as a travel destination.
“Most people might have already heard of Koforidua, but with the coming into town for the celebration, it is going to bring more people…and it is going to help promote Koforidua,” he said.
He added that a health team would be on standby to address emergencies.
