The National Communications Officer of the National Democratic Congress (NDC) has criticised the Roads Minister over remarks concerning the Kumasi International Airport Redevelopment project's phases 1 and 2.
Sammy Gyamfi took issue with Francis Asenso-Boakye's claim that President Akufo-Addo initiated and completed the project as part of his legacy projects.
Contrary to this, Mr Gyamfi contends that it was during Mahama's tenure that funding was secured for the projects, and sod-cutting ceremonies were conducted before he departed from office in 2016.
Expressing disappointment with Asenso-Boakye's remarks, Gyamfi urged him to refrain from disseminating falsehoods regarding projects initiated or executed by the previous Mahama administration.
"Indeed, President Mahama cut the sod for Phase 2 of the project on 5th December 2016, by which time the contractor was already on site. See: Graphic Onlinehttps://www.graphic.com.gh › newsPrez Mahama cuts tape for 2nd phase of Ksi Airport."
"In April 2019, President Akufo-Addo found and had Parliament approve € 58.9 million(69.6 million) from Deutsche Bank AG, London Branch, for Phase 3 of the project whose scope of works include the expansion of the terminal building, access roads, car park and a new fire station."
"It is, therefore, an indisputable fact, that Phase 1 and 2 of the Kumasi International Airport Redevelopment project are the legacies of the Nation-Builder, John Dramani Mahama," he said.
